The weekend before the King's Coronation saw girls from all across Carmarthenshire come together to celebrate. On a cloudy, but dry day, we all converged at the Pembrey Motor Circuit for a day filled with activities.
With all sections invites, activities were varied, so units were placed into activity groups and away we went. 1st Gorslas Brownies began the day with a fun session with one of the county's' Sports Educators. I've never seen so much fun to be had with a simple parachute! Games were played, races were run and then finally it was time to move on. After all, there was a jam packed day planned for them.
Up next was a magic show. Here a fantastic magician wowed our girls with his quick wit and impressive skills. One brave leader even provided her precious ring for one trick. Lucky it worked or who knows when she would have seen it again!
Once the sillyness and laughter was done, it was time for a spot of lunch, with a few challenge tasks thrown in.
Now what the girls had yet to find out was that there was a chance to earn a very special challenge badge, and all it required was the completion of three very special tasks.
Make a human shaped Trefoil
Find Myrddin (our Girlguiding Carmarthenshire Maskot)
Find the 60 owls Myrddin had hidden all around the activity areas.
Now, finding Myrddin was simple, a quick shout brought him to us. The human Trefoil on the other hand, now that was hard. Have you ever tried to get 20+ brownies to make a shape on the floor? Without even thinking of making a Trefoil! But, we got there in the end (sort of).
Then, all that was left was the owls. While the girls got back to the activities, they tasked the Young Leaders with finding the owls. And let me tell you, some fun was had with this!

A quick visit to the bouncy castle and some free time was next on the agenda, with many girls choosing to use their free time to draw some Trefoils on the floor. Thank goodness it was only chalk!
Now, with time moving on, it was time for the final few activities. Up first was a Coronation Craft themed Wide Game. Here our Brownies decorated crowns and made a whole lot of mess. Then it was on to the crafting corner where key-rings were made, coasters were drawn and a whole lot of felt-pens were used. And then finally, the messiest activity of all. Gardening. Each girl got the opportunity to plant a flower in a pot with a special message to be shared with a special person. What a wonderful way to celebrate.
The day was almost over, for the fun to be done, but there was some time for a quick game of giant pass the parcel. That may have been the largest game I'd ever seen! Then finally, it was time for thanks, and a few awards! The County Commissioner thanked us all for coming, (really, it should have been us thanking her) and presented some very special awards, and then it was done. The day was over. What an exhausting but enjoyable day that was had by all.
A big thank you to Sarah, the County Commissioner and everyone on the Events Team for putting together such a fantastic fun day for our girls. And of course a massive thank you to Pembrey Motor Circuit for hosting us.
We look forward to the next one!
